Thomas Riley Chew was the son of Henry John (Harry) Chew and Elizabeth Law.

Thomas was born on Tuesday 27 May 1879 in Buck Steps, Bolton by Bowland, near Clitheroe, Lancashire.

Thomas married Ellen Fell in 1904 in the Clitheroe Registration District.

He had the following children from his marriage to Ellen Fell:
