Harold Richard Thomas was the son of John Thomas and Mary (Polly) Langford.

Harold was born on Friday 24 May 1895 in 15 Derby Street, Garston, near Liverpool, Lancashire.

He was christened on Tuesday 25 June 1895 at St Michael's Church, Garston, Liverpool, Lancashire.

Harold married Elizabeth Calland in 1922 in the Prescot Registration District (Mar. quarter).

He had the following children from his marriage to Elizabeth Calland:

- Nina J. Thomas	born on 1 June 1922.
- Gerald B. Thomas	born in 1930 (date suppressed).
