May Christine Brookes was the daughter of Herbert Brookes and Elizabeth Ann Bradley Darby.

May was born on Tuesday 5 May 1891.

May married Ralph Victor Hippisley-Cox on Thursday 8 August 1912 in Holy Trinity Church.

She had the following children from her marriage to Ralph Victor Hippisley-Cox:

- Philip Hippisley-Cox	born in 1914.
- Denis Hippisley-Cox	born on 21 January 1916 in 9, Antrobus Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, Warwickshire.
- John Douglas Hippisley-Cox	born on 4 April 1922.

May died when she was about 79 years old, in 1970.
